VESSEL OF MEMORY

VESSEL OF MEMORY

Rendering by Nicholas Gilman

All of the work shown here reflects my individual contributions to the project and does not include the work of my team members unless otherwise noted.

Vessel of Memory is a project I completed during my third year of design school as part of an interdisciplinary studio that brought together interior design and architecture students. The focus of the project was the adaptive reuse of a historic church located in East Nashville’s Cleveland Park neighborhood.

This community-centered design explored themes of memory, continuity, and transformation. Our team—comprising four interior designers and three architects—developed Vessel of Memory as a space that honors the past, engages the present, and looks toward the future. The project included both historic preservation and a contemporary addition.

Concept Statement

Acting as a memory vessel for the growing Cleveland Park community, the cultural center will become a repository of memories and experiences marked by this imprint of humanity and passage of time.
